Finding a good auto repair facility is always a concern,
especially when the unexpected happens. ASE-certified automotive technicians and other service
professionals can be identified in several ways. The most
obvious is to look for the ASE sign on the facility. Once
inside, most establishments proudly display the ASE certificates
earned by their technicians in their office or waiting room.
Finally, the technicians may be wearing an ASE patch on the
shoulder of their uniform. All ASE-certified professionals are
proud of their achievement and are more than willing to show you
their credentials.
ASE has years of experience helping the automotive industry
verify the skills and knowledge of the technicians working at
dealerships, independent repair shops, collision shops,
franchises, fleets, and more. Car owners and the service and
repair industry regard ASE certification as the standard measure
of competency and a guide to quality auto repairs.
An ASE Certified mechanic is a mechanic who has
fulfilled the voluntary requirements for
certification by the National Institute for
Automotive Service Excellence. Mechanics who have
ASE certifications are generally viewed as more
desirable candidates for employment by companies
which hire mechanics, such as auto body shops, car
dealers, and bus yards. ASE certification can also
be reassuring for individual consumers who want to
ensure that their vehicles receive work from
competent, highly professional mechanics.
To become ASE certified, a mechanic has to
demonstrate at least two years of work experience,
and pass at least one specialty test. ASE testing is
offered twice a year to candidates who are
interested in certifying. When a test-taker passes
the test, he or she becomes an ASE Certified
mechanic, with a requirement to renew every five
years. Mechanics can take tests in a wide variety of
systems, such as heating/cooling systems, brakes and
suspension, or drive train.
Mechanics can also pursue Master Certification.
An ASE Certified Master mechanic has taken a series
of subject tests to demonstrate competence in an
array of vehicle systems. ASE Master Certification
is offered for automotive, collision repair, engine
machinist, medium-heavy truck, school bus, transit
bus, and truck equipment areas of specialty. Each
area includes a number of ASE exams which must be
successfully passed by the candidate in order to
achieve Master Certification.
Going to an ASE Certified mechanic can ensure
that a car gets the service it needs from a
technician who has demonstrated commitment to
professionalism, continuing education, and proper
training. An ASE Certified mechanic backs his or her
services with a commitment to ethical practices,
which distinguishes mechanics with this
certification from mechanics who lack formal
certification. Having ASE Certification does not
necessarily mean that a mechanic will be better or
more skilled than one who does not hold an ASE
Certificate, but it does mean that the ASE Certified
mechanic has met a minimum standard of practice, and
that he or she takes the work seriously.
We at All Wheel
Alignment & Brake strive to be the most versatile,
honest, and skilled repair facility providing the
excellent service our community can trust. The National
Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE)
has some tips of
finding a good repair establishment and this is
exactly what you will find at our Facility:
-
Start shopping for a repair facility before you
need one.
-
Ask friends and associates for recommendations;
consult local consumer organizations.
-
Arrange for alternate transportation in advance so
you will not feel forced to choose a shop based
solely on location.
-
Look for a neat, well-organized facility, with
vehicles in the parking lot equal in value to your
own and modern equipment in the service bays.
-
Look for a courteous staff, with a service writer
willing to answer all of your questions.
-
Look for policies regarding labor rates, diagnostic
fees, guarantees, acceptable methods of payment,
etc.
-
Ask if the repair facility specializes or if it
usually handles your type of repair work.
Look for signs of professionalism in the customer
service area such as civic, community, or customer
service awards.
-
Look for evidence of qualified technicians: trade
school diplomas, certificates of advanced course
work, and certification by ASE.
-
Reward good service with repeat business and
customer loyalty.
